NHC is contracted by the London Borough of Newham (LBN), and sub-contracts our member GP practices, to provide the following services to Newham residents:
LBN have recently launched the Well Newham directory of health and wellbeing services. This can be used by both residents and health care professionals, with in person hubs available too.
NHS Health Checks
These are designed to spot early indicators for stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia. As people get older, they have a higher risk of developing one of these conditions. An NHS Health Check helps find ways to lower this risk.
Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC)
All GP practices take part inthe promotion of LARC devices as a valid form of contraception (rather than oral methods). GPs not delivering sexual health services (LARC) can make inter- or intra-practice referrals.
Chlamydia Screening
GP practices identify young people aged 15-24 years old who are eligible for opportunistic chlamydia screening. Chlamydia is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection, with sexually active young people at highest risk. As chlamydia often has no symptoms and can have serious health consequences (such as pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy and tubul factor infertility) opportunistic screening remains an essential element of good quality sexual health services for young adults.
HIV Screening
All the GP practices in Newham offer HIV screening to newly-registered patients aged 16-64.
